Researchers have called for a review of the titles used to describe doctors, after a survey found that nurses and patients struggled to identify qualified doctors and to grade their seniority from their name badges.
For the survey, published in BMJ Quality & Safety,1 researchers gave 114 patients and 67 nurses 11 name badges reflecting current training grade job titles used by doctors and one medical student, to see whether they knew what these meant. …
