BMJ 2014; 348 doi: https://doi.org/10.1136/bmj.g1636 (Published 18 February 2014) Cite this as: BMJ 2014;348:g1636Care Quality Commission fails to act against NHS trusts not implementing patient safety alerts: A report by the patient safety charity Action against Medical Accidents shows that England’s Care Quality Commission is not acting against NHS trusts that fail to implement patient safety alerts.1 The trust with the worst record, Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, has not received a single warning over its non-compliance. As at the end of January 2014 Southend had not complied with seven alerts: two were five years past the deadline for completion, and two more were three years past.
