I agree that greater transparency is needed between the medical profession and industry,1 2 but the protracted pace at which such changes have been welcomed by both parties is disappointing.

Almost seven years ago, and in line with changing perceptions, some colleagues and I embarked on a similar attempt to improve the relationship between doctors and industry in Australia.
