Climate change will reduce the temperature related death rate in the United Kingdom over the next 70 years, but not the absolute numbers of such deaths, a new analysis has found.
A warming climate will reduce more deaths from cold than it will increase those from high temperatures, the study found. But population growth—particularly among elderly people, who are most vulnerable to weather extremes—means that the absolute numbers of such deaths will rise, assuming no changes in behaviour or technology.
