Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust, hit by a scandal over failings in care and hundreds of excess deaths between 2005 and 2008, is to be dissolved, but its two hospitals will remain open under new management.
The trust has been in administration since April, when the watchdog Monitor deemed it clinically and financially unsustainable.1 It had struggled since the Healthcare Commission uncovered a catalogue of “appalling” care at Stafford Hospital.
