A consultant liver and pancreatic surgeon has been suspended from duties by his employers for nearly a year, amid concerns about eight “avoidable” deaths among his patients.

David Paul Berry, who worked at the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff, was suspended last January “following concerns about the outcomes for some liver patients whilst in his care,” Cardiff and Vale University Health Board said in a statement.
