Smith makes a good point.1 Like the tobacco industry the drug industry has repeatedly been found to have manipulated and suppressed research data to make its products seem better than they are. Non-industry funded research also suffers from such misconduct, but the scale and influence of pharma funded research make its current state of particular concern.
