Obesity is a risk factor for myocardial infarction and ischaemic heart disease independent of high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and high blood sugar, a study has found.
The authors, from Denmark, said that being overweight or obese probably caused myocardial infarction and heart disease but that it was not known whether the metabolic syndrome also needed to be present.
