The relatives of a mentally ill patient have chained him to a tree at the entrance of India’s most important medical institute, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, after failing to get him admitted to the hospital.

Anil Desai, MP, told the upper house of the Indian parliament1 that the condition of the patient reflected a violation of India’s Mental Healthcare Bill 2013. He has urged the health ministry to respond to the poor treatment of mentally ill patients in India.
