Nearly half of US births were covered by Medicaid in 2010

Medicaid paid for 48% of the 3.8 million births in the United States in 2010, an increase of 19% in only two years, a study has calculated.

Next year, when the Affordable Care Act goes into effect, Medicaid will cover many previously uninsured low income women of childbearing age, not just pregnant women.
