Euthanasia and aiding suicide to remain criminal acts in Canada

Canada’s federal health minister has confirmed that there were no plans to change existing legislation so as to decriminalise euthanasia and doctor assisted suicide.

Rona Ambrose was responding to a Canadian Medical Association debate that exposed strong feelings among the country’s doctors on “mercy killing.”

She said, “Parliament voted in 2010 to not change its position on this issue. At this time we don’t have any intention of changing our position.”
