Health staff exposed to HIV should take three or more antiretroviral drugs, say new US guidelines

The US Public Health Service has issued updated guidelines for postexposure prophylaxis for healthcare workers who may have been exposed to HIV on the job.1
The most significant change in the update is the recommendation that staff who may have been exposed to HIV be started on a regimen of three or more antiretroviral drugs immediately after exposure.
