Rather than emulate Ofsted’s culture of fear, the UK care regulator must engage clinicians to improve standards

Re: Rather than emulate Ofsted’s culture of fear, the UK care regulator must engage clinicians to improve standards
I welcome Dr Boland's stimulating article. Since it appears that the new hospital inspection teams will have quite a few clinical professionals on board, this may in part address his concerns. However, the general point he makes is an excellent one. One possibility, which could be piloted in a few Trusts, is to have Trust staff who are paid by the CQC to be their representatives, perhaps call them CQC Liaison Officers, and could spend a couple of days a month of their time doing background work that would help to inform the next CQC site visit. Having such Liaison Officers on site may also help to keep their Trust colleagues on their toes.
