On qualifying, Monica Kathleen McAllen (née Mack) took out the Robert Fellowes Gold Medal for medicine. After training as a chest physician under Andrew Morland at UCH, she developed her career interest in asthma and allergy, after the revelation by D A Williams that deaths from asthma were much commoner than appreciated at the time (the early 1950s).
