Spence makes many important points.1 I don’t want to indulge in consultant bashing, but some of us seem to have forgotten the reason that we are in the position we are in—to care for patients.

The consultant contract needs reorganisation so we can have consultant delivered care across all specialties, with trainees aiding the services, not maintaining them.
