John Phillip Partridge, known to many as JP, was brought up in Devon and educated at Blundell’s School in Tiverton. After qualifying from St Mary’s Hospital he immediately joined the Royal Navy as a surgeon lieutenant, and, despite severe sea sickness, he served on several ships until the end of the war.
