Campaigners trying to stop the closure of the children’s heart surgery unit at Leeds General Infirmary took their case to the High Court in London this week.
The campaign group is challenging a decision by the Joint Committee of Primary Care Trusts’ “Safe and Sustainable” review of children’s heart surgery services in England. The review recommended closing three units: those at the Royal Brompton Hospital in London, Glenfield Hospital in Leicester, and Leeds General Infirmary and concentrating services in fewer, larger, and more specialised units.1
