After work as resident pathologist at Guy’s and postgraduate study at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Francis Leslie Jackson obtained the Dip Bact in 1949. He worked at the Lister Institute and the National Institute for Medical Research in Mill Hill until 1953, when he moved to King’s College Hospital Medical School, London, as research fellow and later senior lecturer in bacteriology.
