The UK Labour Party has proposed merging the budgets for health and social care and mental health services in England to dissolve the current boundaries and stop patients “falling into the cracks” in the current system.
In a speech this week at the King’s Fund, the healthcare think tank, the shadow health secretary, Andy Burnham, outlined the party’s vision for the future of health and social care and launched a consultation on how to tackle the key challenges facing the system, including an ageing society, rising numbers of people with comorbidities, and financial pressures.
