The government has denied that arrangements for screening and immunisation in England will be weakened under the government’s changes to the NHS, despite concerns raised by the man who will take charge of public health services from April nationally.
The parliamentary Communities and Local Government Committee quizzed ministers and officials during an evidence session on 21 January as part of its inquiry into the role of local authorities in health issues.
MPs asked about comments made by Duncan Selbie, chief executive designate of Public Health England, the body that will lead on public health from April, who raised concerns about screening and immunisation during a previous evidence session of the inquiry.
