Opportunistic screening for depression can improve carers’ health, says college

The Royal College of General Practitioners is calling for more to be done to ensure that carers don’t neglect their health, such as by undergoing routine checks for depression.
The college estimates that at least one in 20 patients registered with every general practice is now a carer. Around 40% of the seven million carers in the United Kingdom are thought to experience psychological distress or depression.
