John Norris was born and brought up in Taunton in Somerset and studied medicine at Bristol, where he met and later married a fellow medical student, Joan Barnes. They married and went to live in Joan’s home city of Salisbury, in a county where his family had lived for generations. They joined separate practices, John going to Dr Barker and partners in Harcourt Terrace and Joan to Dr Jameson in New Street. Both were wholly committed to the NHS and to their patients, who held them in very great esteem. They continued working …
