Maharashtra to train rural health workers to improve access to mental health services

The Maharashtra state health department has proposed training rural health workers to manage patients with mental health problems, to combat the shortage of skilled staff in the specialty.
Archana Patil, director of the Maharashtra public health department, told the Times of India that at present only 6000 people with mental illnesses can access treatment at four regional mental hospitals in the state.
