Re: Ethiopian immigrants in Israel received contraceptive shots without their consent

When Haaretz reported that Israel was forcing contraception on Ethiopian Jews, it was blindly reported and spread by influential newspapers across the globe such as the BBC, and social networking sites such as Facebook and Reddit. It has now reached the BMJ. This was several months ago.

However, Haaretz has issued a partial retraction[1, 2]; the thousands of people who read and believed the original articles are not going to see this.

People are going to continue thinking that Israel is a racist state that is trying to limit or eliminate its black population. People, including those reading the BMJ, will have no idea that Israel went out of its way to smuggle in over 100,000 Ethiopians, or that Israel itself is not a homogeneous white country. Apart from Ethiopians, Israel has recently ensured the safe arrival of Indian immigrants to Israel, as well as several from China.

The charge of "racism" was made by ACRI. This NGO is well-known for its charges of racism and apartheid against Israel. For those interested, Professor Gerald Steinberg has reviewed ACRI here: http://www.ngo-monitor.org/article/association_for_civil_rights_in_israe...

It is a shame that the background to this story was not clarified.
