What is the total price to the patient of a hip replacement? Most US hospitals contacted in a national study could not supply an answer.1 And those that did answer gave a price that varied more than 10-fold: from $11 100 (£7160; €8320) to $125 798. The study found no association between a hospital’s rating and the price it charged.
