Pictures and graphics may look real to depict what danger lies in smoking may deter and dissuade smokers from smoking and prevent youngsters inculcate the habit of smoking, a habit which is so difficult to stop. A cigar in the hands of man people think is a sign of masculinity, a Cuban cigar in the hands of wealthy American a symbol of status, a cigar in the hands of a mechanic or a worker or a scientist or a thinker a picture of concentration- how can we stop it excepting to give a loophole for the manufacturers to fight their case saying that they are not responsible for the vulnerable behavior of smokers who smoke to their heart content until they are diagnosed to have end stage lung cancer. In one of the early Hollywood movies Marcello Mastroianni will have a cigarette in his mouth dangling –when someone tries to light it he will say-“ I am just deceiving to be smoking.”
Like that these picturesque warnings are one more step towards a feeble attempt to protect youngsters from the habit of smoking. It is like deceiving to be deceived. Yet what we to do we need to do to continue the cycle of life with or without smoking. There will be attempts to make cigarettes sell and there will be to stop it. We are fickle minded and we cannot monkey around things that appeal to our biological instincts.
Yet this is an occasion to wish the contributors, writers, scientists all over the globe and the wonderful team of Editorial Board Members, staff and their team a very Happy X-Mas eve and New Year 2013, giving them the strength and the moral resolve to do what they have been for years to continue to serve the cause and spirit of science for humanity to benefit.
