Rapid responses are electronic letters to the editor. They enable our users to debate issues raised in articles published on bmj.com. Although a selection of rapid responses will be included as edited readers' letters in the weekly print issue of the BMJ, their first appearance online means that they are published articles. If you need the url (web address) of an individual response, perhaps for citation purposes, simply click on the response headline and copy the url from the browser window.

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are the three fundamental principles of Democracy. Health is one of the main pillar that will help attain these rights of citizens any where in the world. How these rights are maintained and implemented rests with the policies and principles of the party they represent.Laws and social security are made and executed within the framework such principles. Unfortunately every change or new provision of health care is given a name like Obama care or probably some other terminology. These terminologies are slogans that try to catch the eyes of common man who ultimately benefits as we as provides the treasury with his or her taxes. It is not only in USA even in other countries, the government policies and undertakings are given slogans. Yet the slogan does imply what the ruler provides is the rights of citizens. Governments are there to provide the basic necessities of life to every citizens so that no citizen goes hungry or sleeps on the pavement or stays clothed in rags. Every policy or law must not hold onto individual's name but the Government's caption that says as Healthcare 2012. Playing political cards must be the way to do good to the electorate not to mesmerize them with words but with deeds that speak volumes of what is being done. Until then life, liberty and pursuit of happiness for all ordinary citizens will remain distant dreams all over the globe.
