Swedish surgeons report world’s first uterus transplantations from mother to daughter

A team of surgeons at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg has performed the world’s first transplantations of a uterus from a mother to her daughter. The operations were carried out during the weekend of 14 and 15 September, said the Swedish hospital in a statement after the procedures.

The operations involved two donors with their respective daughters as recipients who are in their 30s. One of recipients was born without a uterus and the other had her uterus removed because of cervical cancer. Although …
