Government figures show that around one in 10 doctors in England took part in the industrial action on 21 June against proposed changes to their pensions.

The figures from each strategic health authority cluster in England, which were obtained from the Department of Health by GP magazine Pulse under freedom of information legislation, show that just over 11% of GPs and just under 11% of consultants downed their stethoscopes for the one day protest.

But as a proportion of the total, GPs accounted for more than a third (35%) of all the 11 494 doctors who took part.

The lowest participation rates were among junior doctors, of whom just under 4% took part, and public health and community doctors, at 2.3%, the figures show.
