West Nile virus infections in the United States climbed by about 25% in one week, says the latest report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The cumulative number of severe infections reached 1993 and deaths 87.
“That is the highest number of West Nile disease cases reported to CDC through the first week of September, since West Nile virus was first detected in the United States in 1999,” said Lyle Peterson during a telephone news conference with reporters on 5 September.
