Further care home scandals like Winterbourne are likely without action, warn campaigners

Abuse scandals at care homes for people with learning disabilities similar to that at Winterbourne View are likely to recur if the government fails to act, campaigners have warned.

The warning comes at the same time as a multiagency report described as painting a “horrifying picture of abuse” called for more investment in community based care for people with learning disabilities.

The focus of both reports is the case of the former Winterbourne View private hospital in south Gloucestershire, owned and operated by Castlebeck Limited.
