Consultants should be at the forefront of delivering care in hospitals throughout the week, including at weekends, because of the known benefits to patients, says a review from the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges.
Although round the clock consultant care will cost more, viewing this change through just a “financial lens would be a significantly missed opportunity to improve the quality of care,” it says.
