Kenyan doctors vow to press government for better health services

Doctors in Kenya have pledged to keep up the pressure on the government to improve their working conditions and the provision of medical services in the country after they called off their strike following a deal between their union and the health ministry.

The one and half week long strike ended on 15 December after the government agreed to pay doctors up to an extra £380 (€460; $590) a month, depending on seniority and where they worked. The monthly starting salary for a junior doctor will rise from £420 to £580.
