BMA meeting: doctors vote to stop sale of children’s play areas and to cut salt in food

A limit on salt in common food items and the addition of folic acid to flour were among a raft of public health measures voted through at the British Medical Association’s annual representative meeting.
In a wide ranging debate delegates also passed motions against the sale of children’s play areas for development and called on the government for a “Tobin tax”—a 0.05% tax on the banking sector to raise money for public services.
However, more controversial motions supporting a fat tax and banning alcohol sales at garage forecourts were defeated.
