The European Commission will table proposals early next month to update existing legislation on clinical trials, but it is unclear whether it will demand that researchers publish the full background data from clinical trials.
Stefano Soro, a senior commission official, last week acknowledged that present European legislation contained failings and confirmed that its successor would deal with the issue of transparency. “We want to move away from the situation where everything is forbidden unless explicitly authorised,” he said.
