Northern Ireland is the latest part of the UK to commit to making patients’ care records available electronically across the NHS and social care sector. Under a £9m (€11.2; $14) contract signed on 29 May, 18 acute and community hospitals, all GP practices, and community and mental health units in the province will be connected with an electronic care record (ECR) system that displays patients’ data extracted from local information technology systems.
