Re: Malaria resurges when complacency over control sets in or funding collapses, study concludes

Dear Editors,

Extreme fund mismanagement, defective mosquito control, disorganized preventive policies, improper agricultural practices and political negligence have conjunctively led to the re-establishment of Plasmodium vivax in Greece.

Expectedly, everyone denies responsibility, accusing someone else.

Millions of tourists, that visit Greece every year, might choose a different destination next year, after reading international malaria warnings. [12]

The amount of the economic damage to Greece’s tourism industry could rise to several billion pounds.

I believe Greece to have malaria re-established due to bureaucratic inefficiencies!

Competing interests: Dr Stavros Saripanidis’ late father had contributed voluntarily, many decades ago, to the eradication of malaria from Greece, by draining marshes.
