European Medicines Agency is to tighten up on advisers’ conflicts of interest

The European Medicines Agency is to further restrict experts with conflict of interests from participating in their scientific committees, an agency spokesperson said on 26 March.
The announcement comes as the European Parliament prepares to approve the agency’s budget amid concerns that it might be delayed again. Last year, the agency’s budget was held back because of problems with management of the agency and issues around conflicts of interest.
The Court of Auditors found the agency had a “lack of respect to, and frequent lack of, implementing procedures regarding the identification and management of conflicts of interest for its staff and experts.”
