Slovakian doctors have pledged to continue to take industrial action to defend affordable healthcare in the former Communist country—after claiming victory in the latest battle over pay for healthcare staff and what they have condemned as government attempts to privatise Slovak healthcare.
Just before Christmas, the Slovak parliament voted to halt moves to turn the country’s public hospitals into joint stock companies—as well as approving a staged pay rise for doctors.
