NHS staff gear up for climate week with energy efficient pledges

Events being planned across the UK for “climate week” this month will show that the NHS remains “admirably committed to the green agenda,” says a leading organiser.

Kevin Steele, chief executive of the climate week campaign, said that health sector staff and organisations would set a “powerful example” of what can be done to tackle climate change.

So far some 1800 events have been registered to take place from 12 to 18 March (www.climateweek.com), involving individuals and organisations such as hospitals, schools, local authorities, businesses, and charities.

Mr Steele said that there was widespread recognition in the NHS that cutting greenhouse gas emissions was an effective means of saving money as well as helping to prevent climate change and create a sustainable future.
