Children who are severely injured at birth in England and Wales will continue to get legal aid to bring clinical negligence claims, after a last minute U turn by the UK government.
The Legal Aid, Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Bill would have abolished legal aid for a swathe of civil claims, including those alleging negligent medical treatment, in a bid to shave £350m (€420m; $560m) a year from the legal aid budget.
