Out of hours GPs’ “culture of avoiding blame” is putting patients at risk

Out of hours GPs are afraid to admit mistakes and use the systems that have been designed to avoid a repeat of incidents because they fear they will be blamed when things go wrong, according to a new report by the NHS Alliance.

The report follows a review of the work of 10 out of hours providers over the past year. It found that a “blame culture” and the “lack of a system that allows people to share information,” were putting patients in danger.
