More evidence needed on giving flu jab to children: The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation in England and Wales has said it needs more evidence before it can recommend vaccinating healthy children under the age of 17 against seasonal flu. The committee discussed the issue at its latest meeting after England’s health secretary, Andrew Lansley, asked whether the vaccination programme should be extended. The government’s director of immunisation, David Salisbury, said that a key consideration would be the availability of the vaccine in the form of nose drops.
