Ombudsman reports GP to the GMC for refusing to apologise to a patient

The health service ombudsman has named a GP and reported him to the General Medical Council and his local primary care trust for refusing to apologise to a patient and pay her £500 (€590; $800) compensation for leading her to believe she had no choice but to leave the practice.
Trevor Hampson of Northway Medical Centre in Dudley, West Midlands, is the first GP to be “named and shamed” in a report by the ombudsman, Ann Abraham. Since taking over the post in 2002, she has issued such a report only once before, in a case involving a dentist.
