Alirio Melendez, chair of immunopharmacology at Liverpool University, has been suspended by the university amid allegations of research misconduct. A review of around 70 of his published papers is being carried out by his former employer, the National University of Singapore.
The investigation was triggered by an anonymous tip off. A February 2011 paper in Nature Immunology (2011;12;344-51, doi:10.1038/ni.2004) was retracted in July because of image irregularities, and an “expression of concern” was published this month about a paper in Science (doi:10.1126/science.1214735).
