Nurse is arrested over deaths at Stepping Hill hospital

A registered nurse has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the deaths of three patients at Stepping Hill hospital in Stockport, Greater Manchester.

At the time of going to press Rebecca Jane Leighton remains in police custody for questioning, and the investigation is ongoing.

Greater Manchester police were first called to the hospital on 12 July after an experienced nurse noticed abnormally high numbers of patients on her ward with low blood sugar levels and discovered that ampoules of saline solution had been tampered with.
