Famine is imminent in Horn of Africa: Unicef has warned that 480 000 children will be severely malnourished this year in drought affected Somalia, Kenya, and Ethiopia, up 50% on the 2009 number. The number of people fleeing to refugee camps in Kenya and Ethiopia for food is unprecedented, it said. In some camps the crude death rate among young children is above the emergency threshold of four deaths per 10 000 children per day.
