Republicans in the US House of Representatives have introduced a bill (called HR3) to prohibit health insurance plans paying for abortions. The speaker of the house, John Boehner, said that the bill was “highest priority.”
The House Judiciary Committee will hold hearings on the proposed bill tomorrow (Tuesday 7 February).
It would place tax penalties on employers who offer health insurance plans that cover abortion and on individuals who buy a health insurance plan of their own that covers abortion. At present most plans cover abortion.
