Gaius Backholer Sutton was a singlehanded general practitioner, latterly in Tongue, Sutherland. An enthusiastic “amateur” anaesthetist; he served as principal medical officer anaesthetist in Umtata, South Africa.
He had a passion for gospel preaching, which he engaged in wherever he lived, and was a gifted precentor of the psalms. He leaves his beloved wife, Mary; three sons and two daughters; and six grandchildren.

Former general practitioner Tongue, Sutherland (b 1934; q Bristol 1957; DObstRCOG, DCH, DA), died from cancer of the prostate on 9 August 2010.
