The former medical director of a hospital trust stands accused by the General Medical Council of dishonesty or recklessness in signing a defence to a claim of negligence against the trust over a patient’s death 14 years ago.
The GMC alleges that Gerard Murphy, who was medical director at North Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust at the time, knew that an assertion in the defence that the patient’s illness had been correctly diagnosed was untrue or failed to take steps to establish the truth of the defence.
